Tax Savings With Section 179

On October 4, 2016 in News, Recent news, Pro Tips

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR 179 TAX DEDUCTIONS DON’T MISS OUT – YOU COULD DEDUCT THE FULL PURCHASE PRICE!

Don’t miss an opportunity to save on your 2016 taxes!  The purpose of this section of our website is to give you professional advice within the foodservice industry and we’ve got a great tax tip for you with this edition!

The federal tax Code Section 179 allows you to fully depreciate up to $500,000 on equipment placed in service during 2016 for your restaurant, deli, grocery store or C-store. Further, if you exceed the $500,000 limit on asset purchases, there is a bonus depreciation provision that qualifies most new equipment assets placed in service during 2016 to be depreciated at 50%. Time is of the essence because the assets must be PLACED IN SERVICE during the 2016 calendar year in order to qualify. Both tax provisions allow you an opportunity to upgrade or add to your equipment (some examples listed below or click HERE for a full list) while saving on your federal taxes. Please consult with your professional tax advisor for more details.

Can I lease (or finance) equipment and take the Section 179 Deduction?

Absolutely. In fact, this is a very effective strategy, as the deduction you take may actually exceed the total loan or lease payments you make for the year.

Ready to purchase? Great! e-mail us at equipment.division@PFSbrands.com or call toll-free 855-632-3373.

Q: Can you tell us what you did before landing at PFSbrands?

A: Prior to joining the PFS team I worked in several different fields.  I grew up in Southern California which houses a lot of industry.  During college I worked full time and went to school at night.  It took FOREVER, but I finally got my BS in Business Management.

After some flipping of burgers as a teenager, I worked a couple years at Northrop Electronics.  I did everything from driving trucks, delivering materials, to working in a “clean-room”.  My first leadership role was as a Plant Manager at a “Drive Axle remanufacturing” company.

Monthly Huddles and Business Meetings

Are Your Monthly Huddles Running Smoothly?

How often does your company hold business meetings? I’m not talking about the type of meeting to discuss the upcoming Christmas party, but actually getting all key managers together (or everyone dependent on company size) to discuss the key financials and KPIs from the previous week or month? It all comes back to open book management, keeping everyone in the loop, and keeping everyone with their eye on the prize!

Q: Can you tell us what you did before landing at PFSbrands?

A: Prior to joining PFSbrands, I spent 19 years working at a global manufacturer of personal care products.   During those years I had the opportunity to serve and learn many roles ending as an Operations Manager.  Prior to that, I spent time working for a privately held manufacturing company in the Columbia, MO area holding multiple roles there as well.  The only other job I had after college was with my father as an industrial employment recruiter.

Throughout my career I’ve been blessed to work for very few employers yet develop a diverse skill base across many disciplines.  Because I’ve been exposed to so many different types of roles, I’ve been able to take the positive pieces from each of those positions/people and develop my leadership style.

Getting Social: Time for an Office Party?

Getting Social Time for an Office Party featured

Building a Winning Team at the Office

One of the best ways to increase business communication is to make your coworkers more comfortable around each other: aka build social bonds. There’s nothing like that awkward silence of people that don’t know each other very well, don’t know how to interact, or simply don’t like each other. A good way to overcome that is by instilling a family atmosphere in the office. While families may have their little squabbles (which are bound to happen in the office) for the most part they get along and have open lines of communication.

One of the best ways to build those bonds in your business is via social gatherings or an office party. Don’t believe me? Jack Stack in the Great Game of Business said celebrations and get-togethers were a massive way to get everyone on the same page. But how does an office party or social outing improve teamwork?
